Choice Technologies, Inc. Instructions for Timeout Error #3 while backing up in People’s Choice DOS Classic V5.0

 

Follow these steps to resolve the Timeout Error #3 when trying to backup in People’s Choice DOS Classic V5.0:

  1. Exit People’s Choice to get to your Windows Desktop
  2. Go to an MSDOS Prompt
  3. Type CD\PEOPLE to get to the PEOPLE Prompt (normally C:\PEOPLE or go to wherever People’s Choice is installed. If unknown, go into People’s Choice and go into Payroll & Disbursements and then into Utilities and then to Access DOS Shell—this prompt will give you the drive and folder where People’s Choice resides. This is the prompt we must get to.)
  4. Type CD COMPXX and press enter (where XX is the company number in People’s Choice for the company you are trying to backup; i.e. for company number one type CD COMP01; if your People’s Choice is located at C:\PEOPLE this should give you the C:\PEOPLE\COMP01> prompt ).
  5. Type DEL 1*.* and then press enter (if "File Not Found" message is given, ignore and proceed with next step)
  6. Type DEL 2*.* and then press enter (if "File Not Found" message is given, ignore and proceed with next step)
  7. Type DEL 3*.* and then press enter (if "File Not Found" message is given, ignore and proceed with next step)
  8. Type DEL 4*.* and then press enter (if "File Not Found" message is given, ignore and proceed with next step)
  9. Type DEL 5*.* and then press enter (if "File Not Found" message is given, ignore and proceed with next step)
  10. Type DEL 6*.* and then press enter (if "File Not Found" message is given, ignore and proceed with next step)
  11. Type DEL 7*.* and then press enter (if "File Not Found" message is given, ignore and proceed with next step)
  12. Type DEL 8*.* and then press enter (if "File Not Found" message is given, ignore and proceed with next step)
  13. Type DEL 9*.* and then press enter (if "File Not Found" message is given, ignore and proceed with next step)
  14. Type EXIT and then press enter; this should take you back to the Windows Desktop
  15. Go back into People’s Choice and try to make your backup
