Choice Technologies, Inc. Balance Errors when Closing the Month

 

If you receive a balance error when closing the month follow the instructions below.  If you continue receiving errors after running the GWREPOST and BALTEST please call the Technical Support Center at 888-221-7905.

INSTRUCTIONS for RUNNING UTILITIES

Version:  People's Choice 4.2 and 5.0

Be sure you have a CURRENT backup of your data.  If you do not have a current backup, complete one before proceeding on a newly formatted set of diskettes.  DO NOT back up over your most recent set of backups.

Complete the following steps:

  1. Go to the Payroll & Disbursement menu.

  2. Go to #6 Utilities.

  3. Go to D System Access.

  4. Type the password fox and press Enter.

  5. At the gray bar, type the following commands, one at a time:

    • Do FIXAT (press Enter)

    • Do FIXDTLLK (press Enter)

    • Do FIXUTN (press Enter)

    • Do ORPHANS (press Enter)

Please note any error messages you receive.  In the event of fatal system errors, please print or copy them down, and call for support at 888-221-7905, or fax the errors to 712-262-0281.

After completing the utility steps, follow the instructions for the GWREPOST & BALTEST.

 

INSTRUCTIONS for BALTEST & GWREPOST

Version:  People's Choice 4.2 and 5.0

Be sure you have a CURRENT backup of your data.  If you do not have a current backup, complete one before proceeding on a newly formatted set of diskettes.  DO NOT back up over your most recent set of backups.

The following utility can take from thirty (30) minutes to several hours, depending on the amount of data you have.  If you need to complete other work, you may wish to finish this process when time is not critical.

1.  Go to the Payroll & Disbursement menu.
2.  Go to #6 Utilities.
3.  Go to D System Access.
4.  Type the password fox and press enter.
5.  At the gray bar, type the following command:

DO GWREPOST   (press Enter)
(Please make note of any error messages you receive.)  In the event of fatal system errors, STOP here and call for support at 888-221-7905.

After running the GWREPOST, return again to System Access, following steps 1-4 if necessary.  Type:

DO BALTEST    (press Enter)

Enter the year and period combinations listed in the box under Valid year Period Combinations.  Run the test for ALL periods, not just the current accounting period.

This test should come out error free.  If not, please print the error messages and contact our office for further instructions at 888-221-7905.

Be certain to establish a routine system for completing and maintaining backups of your accounting data.  This is the simplest and cheapest insurance you can have to protest your and your business against unexpected loss due to mechanical failure, fire or natural disasters.
